No-go companies

Alright, here it is. A list* of companies we shouldn’t shop at, and the reasons why:

Food

  • Ben & Jerry’s: Support for Obergefell; signing amicus curiae brief that
that bakery owner Jack Phillips cannot rightly cite religious beliefs in his decision to not bake a cake for a gay “wedding” (Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission)

Gillette–social justice campaign with insulting ads.

And while we can’t possibly make a list of all the good companies to shop from, we can outline general criteria. Try to shop at local companies, owned or operated by well-regarded people who attend your church, raise good children, and participate in your community in a positive way. Local butcher shops can be a treat to visit. Non-chain coffee shops are usually quaint.

*List began as of January 14, 2019 and will grow with time. I welcome suggestions in the comments.

  1. Great idea! I’d add Ben and Jerry’s, Target, Nike, and Starbucks to the “no go” list. As far as good, big corporations go, Chick-fil-A, Home Depot, Bass Pro, and Papa John’s seem like good companies.

    1. Thanks Joe. Can you add links here substantiating your claim? If a company warrants inclusion, I will make sure they get added. —FTNC

  2. https://www.benjerry.com/flavors/pecan-resist-ice-cream

From Ben and Jerry’s Pecan Resist ice cream website: “We can peacefully resist the Trump administration’s regressive and discriminatory policies…” Alienating half your consumers is a terrible business model. If you’re going to “peacefully resist”, why even mention it? I’ll never eat Ben and Jerry’s again.

Nike is a bit more objective as their recent ads have slanted far left, the most prominent being Colin Kaepernick stating in a commercial: “Believe in something, even if means sacrificing everything.”, comparing his “fight” to those whose challenges far outweigh “his”, like people with disabilities. The commercial can be seen here. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-grjIUWKoBA

Starbucks and their plan to hire 10,000 refugees simply because they are refugees is something. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/why-trump-supporters-boycott-starbucks-2017-2

    1. Thanks, Joe. I found other grounds for excluding Ben & Jerry’s (check it out above). I wont add a company just because they do not like Trump. I will look into the others, although I don’t see much that is immoral or evil with Nike or Starbucks from what you’ve provided above–although I suspect with a little sleuthing you can find ammo regarding those two companies (especially Starbucks). Thanks for the help. Let’s get this list to grow!–FTNC
